This week’s show is something of a first for me, I bring you more Latin jazz than I ever have before.  With all this cold weather, I needed to spice things up a bit.  That said, we open with a trio of Hammond B-3 organ tunes from three legends of the form.

I also feature the “hits” from ‘West Side Story’ in keeping with the Latin flare…

Enjoy!

This week’s show is dedicated to the people who perished in Paris this week & the ideas for which they died – that must live on forever in us all.

In the closing hour or so of this show, I bring you songs & melodies derived with Paris & France & freedom in their hearts.

I close the show with Edit Piaf’s classic “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.”

Please read the words – with English translation – below.

“Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien”

Non, Rien de rien
(No, nothing of nothing)
Non, Je ne regrette rien
(No, I regret nothing)

Ni le bien qu’on m’a fait
(Not the good things that have been done to me)
Ni le mal tout ça m’est bien égal
(Nor the bad things, it’s all the same to me)

Non, Rien de rien
(No, nothing of nothing)
Non, Je ne regrette rien
(No, I regret nothing)

C’est payé, balayé, oublié
(It’s paid for, swept away, forgotten)
Je me fous du passé
(I don’t care about the past)

Avec mes souvenirs
(With my memories)
J’ai allumé le feu
(I lit the fire)

Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs
(My troubles, my pleasures)
Je n’ai plus besoin d’eux
(I don’t need them anymore)

Balayés les amours
(Swept away my past loves)
Avec leurs trémolos
(With their tremors)

Balayés pour toujours
(Swept away for always)
Je repars à zéro
(I start again from zero)

Non, Rien de rien
(No, nothing of nothing)
Non, Je ne regrette rien
(No, I regret nothing)

Ni le bien qu’on m’a fait
(Not the good things that have been done to me)
Ni le mal tout ça m’est bien égal
(Nor the bad things, it’s all the same to me)

Non, Rien de rien
(No, nothing of nothing)
Non, Je ne regrette rien
(No, I regret nothing)

Car ma vie, car mes joies
(Because my life, my joys)
Aujourd’hui, ça commence avec toi
(Today, it begins with you)

This is my first new show in about 4 weeks.  The Christmas show was a smash as was the Thanksgiving show – and thank you for listening!

This week – since it’s still somewhat the holiday season until Monday January 5th – I decided to put up a new show that is true to the core of the show…but, with some nuance.

Happy New Year, everyone!  May 2015 be as prosperous for you in every sense of the word as possible!

This week’s episode – as I’d listened back to it before I posted it – may be one of my favorites I’ve ever presented to you. It’s mostly jazz – very little big band, not much real Broadway – but, loaded with great performances – some of them are live, too.

If you listen to this show this week, you’ll hear:

  • Helen Merrill
  • Coltrane doing a 22 minute live version of ‘My Favorite Things’ in a small club in Lower Manhattan in 1965. STUNNING!
  • A tribute to some great jazz guitarists in Les Paul, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green & Chet Atkins.
  • Nat Cole & Johnny Hartman, per usual.
  • Nina Simone
  • Oscar Peterson
  • Sarah Vaughan
  • Bill Eckstine
  • Bobby Darin
  • Miles Davis
  • Cannonball Adderly
  • Coleman Hawkins & Ben Webster – The former solo & the duo together, separately.
  • A trio of Chet Baker & Van Morrison songs
  • I close with Van Morrison singing & Chet Baker playing ‘Send In The Clowns’ together.  Also, STUNNING!

Enjoy!
